How would you describe your art - in one sentence, or a short phrase.
To answer this question I would like to give some room to Shitao point of view: “The true painting do not reveal the art, even less something aesthetic; it is a way to be”.
Photo of you in your studio; or beside an art piece that you like.
One sentence to describe your studio / the place you work.
It is a shelter.

When I completed this artwork, it was the first work that touched me so deeply and brought tears to my eyes. The lotus is the expression of purity: how we can change our beings and achieve a state of freedom and contentment. Our surroundings may not be ideal, but we can always find the lotus inside us.
Metamorfose - Hua
This butterfly means a lot to me, it is the picture of my mother, whom has passed away. Like a butterfly that just changed to one stage to another. Now she can fly. Metamorfose in Chinese means Hua.
"Hua" has on its image a picture of a man [human being] and at his side a man upside down or a dead man. The beauty of this character is not whether the man is alive or dead, but the mysterious moment of metamorphosis, what lies between those stages, the void that allows the reconstruction. And now I can feel my mother near whenever I need her, as a butterfly.
From this artwork the hummingbirds started to come to me, i can't really explain why. Some people told me that he has the biggest heart comparing to his body of all animals, so he is an warmhearted bird. The fact is I somehow felt that I became more mature. So as a bird or a man, or something in metamorphose is the meaning for this bird.
Some say the capacity of a hummingbird to bring the spiritual close. I like that explanation.
Most memorable art commission - what was the piece about, who commissioned the art, what was the experience like.
I still vividly remember this story. Once I showed Metamorfose - Hua to a a good friend who worked in a gallery. I told her what that work was about and she was overwhelmed and impressed. She asked me to allow her to sell it.
I told her it was complicated: first of all the original was well guarded by my brother and he is the owner of this artwork, and I have never sold an copy before.
After a long time, I have decided that I could make a copy with certificate of authenticity. When the butterfly arrived at her gallery, she sold it in less than one week. She called me and said: "your work has a new owner and the lady who bought it was so touched about all the feelings that you put on the brush strokes. She said that that you made her day!"
I felt happy inside, because art is about how you feel, and the lady felt something that fulfilled her.
How you work with your clients - a short description of how you develop concepts and ideas, and collaborate with your clients.
It's simple. The client can buy some of my already completed artworks or order a new one. I will introduce my styles to the clients and how I may be able to fulfil their wishes.
What/who inspires you?
There is a Taoist saying: "act without action, without action you act." For me this is about listening, staying focused at the right moment. First, we should listen to to our inner-selves before listening to the surroundings.
I can say that my family inspires me, friends, clients and every single person I have met with story to tell are my inspirations. Everyone give me a new point of view about the world. It is all about listening and feeling, elaborating and putting them on paper.
I feel that my work is all about removing the weight of life: life can be heavy, but I know it, too, can be free of burdens. Life can be mean but can also be generous. Life can be stiffs at times but there'll always be tender moments.
