What I love most about being an artist? Being able to create pictures that are truly from my heart.

Location: Maine, USA

One word that best describes your style: Contemporary Realism

1. What does a typical day in your life look like?

I’m at my computer first thing in the morning, taking care of communication and social networking/marketing. If I have any reference photo research to do, that is the time. I’m a morning person, so I can accomplish a whole lot in little time! Usually, I paint for a couple of hours before lunch. Since I paint in oils, the pieces need to dry between sessions; therefore I often have up to three paintings in process at the same time.

Being the Director/Curator of a local gallery, some time of each day must be devoted to making sure all is well with the physical location, as well as keeping up with the artists who are currently showing their work, while simultaneously preparing for next month’s show.

If time allows, I’ll paint for another hour or two in the afternoon, then settle in for a glass of wine and a snack before my husband gets home and I turn into a housewife again!

2. Tell us one unique thing about you / your art.

My “alter ego” paints ecoactive art (about the perils of the environment).

Reflections by Janet Glatz

I love a painting that I did about two years ago called “Reflections”. It depicts an old boathouse and pier that sit on an estuary on the way to Portland, Maine. Having seen it in all kinds of light, I was compelled to paint it in the early evening just before the sun goes down. It got sold right away.

5. What are 3 things you can’t live without in a day?

Coffee, the smell of oil paint, and sunshine.

6. Where do you get inspiration when you need it most?

I look at the work of famous artists and/or photographs of beautiful places. Pinterest is great for that.

7. What does success look like to you?

Life as I know it today. I love what I do; I’m happily married, and I am healthy.
