Michelle Ang

Born and based in Singapore, Michelle Ang is a visual artist who paints through a progression of reflexive reaction and responses akin to the cognitive process of memory. She finds the emotive and analytical process of painting provides a sense of ignorance and thrill of the unknown, remedying reality's bleakness.
Her subject predominantly stems from the jadedness of traveling and banality of survival.

What began as a series of brash portraits driven by the need to encapsulate the impulsive recklessness of being human, she has shifted primary focus from the figurative form into the act of painting itself. Still exploring various mixed media and methods, she drifts in between figuration and abstraction.

Some of her artist inspirations include Albert Oehlen, Amy Sillman, Marcus Jansen, Rosson Crow and Joanne Corno.
