Bodhisattva- Oil on Canvas By Aparna Patil Copyright @ APARNA PATIL In Mahayana Buddhism, bodhisattva is the Sanskrit term for anyone who, motivated by great compassion, has generated bodhicitta, which is a spontaneous wish to attain buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. The word bodhisattva is a compound word formed from bodhi (spiritual awakening, enlightenment) and sattva (a being, essence, spirit). The word can then be translated as A being set upon enlightenment,One whose essence is perfect knowledge,or A being whose essence is enlightenment.
