Sambal Belachan is a condiment eaten with mostly rice and other dishes, made of chillies and shrimp paste native to Southeast Asia. These ingredients are pounded in a “batu lesung” (mortar and pestle). This was how I probably looked making this in my childhood to prevent the chilli juice from getting in my eyes.. We use electronic blender now.
